Gaining global popularity and world wide reknown during the last tournament, Athena Asamiya used her newfound fame as a point to launch her musical career. Traveling with her master Chin Gentsai and friend Sie Kensou who also played guitar for her, they toured the world, spreading Athena's cheerful music, and shared her winsome spirit with millions of people in tens of countries. While on tour, the three recieved an invitation to a tournament, the King of Fighters! This year, the tournament would be televised worldwide and would have coverage rivaling that of the Olympics! Athena saw it as another facet for which she could share her music with the rest of the world, Chin saw it as an opportunity to investigate a funny feeling he had been experiencing, and Kensou saw it as yet another year of fighting mischief and mayhem beside his beloved comrades.

Athena is the re-incarnation of the Greek goddess by the same name. However she acts just like a normal girl, going to school, shopping, and indulging in her love of music. She originally joined the King of Fighters tournament sensing an evil aura surrounding the tournament, but since then has also entered to publicize her singing career. In any event, she enjoys her role as a justice fighter. (read bio)

Kensou is not a natural psychic, instead he awakened his powers through vigorous training. Though he struggled hard to maintain his psychic powers, over time they began to dissipate, causing him frustration at the thought of being helpless. Following the addition of Bao to the Psycho Soldiers, Kensou has regained his abilities using an increasing power inside his body from an unknown origin. (read bio)

Beneath the deteriorated physique, beyond the drinking habit, and despite displaying no overt psychic power mastery, Chin is a very knowledgable teacher of telepathy and the supernatural. His prized student Athena approached him with an invitation to a tournament she had an eerie inkling about. Chizuru That's not important. Know this, Rugal self-destructed. You were more lucky than strong.

Chin Who is this silly mistress?
Chizuru My name is Kagura, the Guardian.
Athena The Guardian?
Chizuru I want to see your true power, but if you've done your best, we'll part company now. What do you say?

Chizuru The power that Rugal tried to seize... The Orochi power... I am protector of the dark power.
Rugal You mean Rugal released it?
Chizuru No, Rugal only siphoned some of the power when it was freed by another. He never knew that power would finally destroy him.
Kensou So what does that have to do with us fighting you?
Chizuru You defeated the mighty Rugal. To see your true power, I held this tournament. As I thought, you won. Next I had to test you myself.
Kensou Why?
Chizuru Because I need your help to seal off the Orochi power forever. There's no time left. I feel him coming!
Athena Coming? Who?
Chizuru The man who took Rugal's right eye and released the dreaded Orochi power!
Chin What did you say?
Kensou Gwaah! What in...? Fudge, what was that?
Athena Oh, is everyone all right?

Goenitz Greetings, call me Goenitz. I watched your progress and must say you are mistaken in trying to save the human race.
